Woodcarving Kit For Beginner

hi I'm Cindy from chipping away and I am here to talk to you today about our beginner week a great way to get started.

If you are interested in beginning wood carving and not sure where to go or where to get the information to get going then of course this kid is for you. I'll start by introducing what comes in the package. so you'll get a booklet which is an instruction guide from not necessarily step by step but gives you enough information that you'll be able to figure out how to go about.

You'll receive three cutouts to create three different carvings and the first beginner project is going to be an apple with a bite out of it and of course you'll get the wood the western boot and there's a cute little dog in there as well. so when you get the cutouts in the package, they of course won't be finished for you. they'll be just cut out rough cut on a bandsaw for you the boot and the Apple the dog and so on. and then you'll receive a sharpened Murphy knife which is manufactured in the US great little knife to get going and it's a good beginner knife. it'll be ready to go pre-shift pre sharpened and honed polished for easy use and then of course you get one extra block just to do some practice cuts and that will basically help with questions you might have if you're reading along in the book so to get started you'll want to draw a rough circle in the top of the block that will basically just give you the round shape of the Apple so what I'm doing now is removing those hard corners of the block so that I have a rounder shape which will ultimately be your Apple. so after I've rounded the block out to create the apple shape.

I've drawn in or marked the bottom of the Apple where the core would be just like you see here. you'll want to leave a star shape in the bottom which will create that pitted look. so we're just finishing up rounding out the Apple and putting some final details on it. I've carved the bottom and of course the top and in your kit. you'll also find an extra piece of wood for practice cuts from this piece of wood. you can cut down a stem and then of course glue it in the top just like you see in this project. we're in this finished Apple and then some craft acrylic paint to finish it up and of course you can add some bite marks if you like, just like you see on this one and that's it.

so thanks for joining me and happy carving bye.
